Great Organizations

We encourage you to go to these organization websites to get a better understanding of what they do.  This is just our opinion of services offered, but in no way is designed to be comprehensive.  We believe all these organizations work to create better lives for animals.

America Veternary Medical Associations website has information on the pet food recall and medical pet care information http://www.avma.org/

The America Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Aspca).  Last year they celebrated 140 years.  They have a lot of good information, monitor legislative issues, rescue abused and neglected animals and increase public awareness.  www.aspca.org  Once you get on their website you may want to join their legislative alerts.  They have a poison control center that operates 24/7.  The cost for this service is $55 (approximately and you will need a credit card).

The American Humane Association and the Humane Society of the United States are long established organizations with great reputations.  They work to educate the general public on animal care, prevent abuse and death in animals used for tv and film, and strive to end abuse, neglect, and overpopulation.  http://www.humane.org and http://www.hsus.org

Local Humane Associations typically model after the above organizations.  They may offer pets for adoption, serve as a drop off for strays or unwanted pets, may be able to provide discounts for spay or neuter programs, and may have free information or offer humane education to the local community.  Every shelter we’ve ever worked with tries very hard to place healthy animals in new homes, but due to the high volume of animals dropped off at the various locations and lack of funding, some animals may get ethuanized or may later wind up in another state or city shelter where they are euthanized. However, if you have a stray or need to turn in an animal, please turn it in to a shelter rather than letting it fend for itself on the street.

People for the ethical treatment of animals (PETA). This group is well known for their stance on humane treatment of all animals.  They encourage vegatarian lifestyles, the elimination of animal research, the elimination of the fur industry, and humane treatment for all livestock.  Their pictures can be graphic (so imagine what the animal is enduring) and have been involved in more controversy because they have broken the law to protect animals.  Recently, a couple of PETA workers were the cause of negative media attention due to the euthanasia and disposal of some cats.  However, this well established group has done a great deal to expose injustices done to animals. www.peta.org
